The 2nd Annual Independence Day Church Softball Tournament saw teams from Mt. Carmel Baptist, Cross Plains Methodist, Milldale Presbyterian, Christian Gospel Temple, AND the Cross Plains Fire Department. Mt. Carmel took the trophy home for another year.
Saturday night music featuring The Ridgetop Ramblers brought a big crowd together under the pavilion, however fireworks were delayed until Sunday night due to weather. |
Independence Day 2009 observances started at 9am in Cross Plains with the annual Kilgore Remembrance at Villines Cemetery. Local, Robertson County, and state dignitaries were on hand as well as longhunters in traditional garb. Nancy Bellar spoke on the descendants of Thomas Kilgore, the first white settler in what is now Cross Plains. While many members of his family remain in the area, none are named Kilgore. |
